IDEAL – Peer Mentors

We are currently searching for individuals to serve as Peer Mentors and Peer Supports for our IDEAL students! These individuals work with IDEAL students to help them achieve academic success, develop a social network, and establish healthy and independent lifestyles. We offer both paid and volunteer positions.  Apply Here!

Peer Mentor

  • Completes weekly schedules with students
  • Connects students with campus organizations of interest
  • Submits weekly Progress Monitoring forms
  • Attends bi-weekly mentor trainings
    Serves as a liaison for student’s different supports, academic mentors, etc.

Time Commitment: 5 hours per week


Academic Peer Mentor

  • Attends select GSU classes with an IDEAL student
  • Prepares for class by reviewing notes and material
  • Debriefs after class by summarizing key points and reviewing notes
  • Communicates with IDEAL lecturer and GSU faculty member to modify assignments and if any concerns arise

Time Commitment: 5 hours per week

Fitness Support

Works with students to develop healthy and active lifestyles. This may be developing workout plans, learning new running routes around campus, or assisting the student to set up an accountability system.
Time Commitment: 3 hours per week

Social Support

Supports students in progressing towards their social goals. This may be attending a football game, joining a club, or attending a pop-up campus event.
Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week

IDEAL Class Support

Provides 1:2 or 1:3 in-class support for IDEAL Fundamental classes.
Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week

IDEAL Class Participation
In the Fall, all students in IDEAL will take a Current Events Class. The class will consist of weekly discussions that relate to events that are happening throughout the world.
Classes will be held on Friday’s in the Fall semester
Time commitment: 3-5 hours/week
