Abstract
The rates of disability are higher among children who are deaf or hard of hearing. The course explores the benefits and limitations of using developmental screening tools and the best ways audiologists can support families when working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing with developmental disabilities and/or medical complexities.

- Prerequisites: no prerequisites are required for this course.
Course Completion Requirement

Learning Objectives
- Describe the rates of disabilities among children who are deaf/hard of hearing.
- Recognize the benefits and limitations of screening tools within the audiology setting.
- Implement at least two strategies of family support when working with children who are D/HH with developmental disabilities and/or medical complexity.

Presenters
Dr. Susan Wiley
Susan Wiley is a developmental pediatrician at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC). Her clinical and research interest focuses on children who are Deaf with Disabilities and language interventions for children who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing with language underperformance. She is the co-director of the CHARGE center at CCHMC and is the American Academy of Pediatrics liaison to the Joint Committee on Infant Hearing. She is also on the advisory board of the Ohio Center for DeafBlind Education and the OCALI Center for Deafness and Blindness.

Djenne-Amal Morris
Djenne-Amal Morris is a passionate advocate, trainer, and motivational speaker renowned for her ability to infuse humor and real-life experiences into her work. As a dedicated mother of a son with CHARGE Syndrome, Djenne's journey fuels her commitment to creating a world of support and empowerment for families, children, and professionals in the disability community.
Professionally, Djenne serves as the Family Faculty/Multicultural Advisor for the NC-LEND program at UNC-Chapel Hill. She brings a wealth of expertise to her role, with a BA in Psychology from Clark University and certifications in Diversity and inclusion from Cornell University and Trauma-Informed Care. Currently pursuing a Master’s in Deaf Education, Djenne continuously expands her knowledge and skills to better serve her community.
Beyond her institutional work, Djenne is the co-author of "The Art of Collaboration: Lessons from Families of Children with Disabilities" and owns a successful consulting business. She empowers individuals and organizations to embrace diversity and foster inclusive environments through workshops, training sessions, and coaching.
